More References - Lighting

Here are some lighting references that I never got around to posting on the blog before, but they are still relevant now, maybe moreso, given that I will be turning out final shots in the coming months.

They are all pulled from fairly random noir films (some early, some neo-noir...and one Vanity Fair photo shoot I believe), but you get the idea.

Compositing References

So heading into the next phase of my production (the compositing and rendering phase), I've got a bunch of samples of work that I used as inspiration early on in development that I think apply well here.

In particular, note the use of texture, form vs. line and the stylized appearance that many have. They are all from still works, mostly because I don't see a point in imitating a look already achieved in an animated piece with yet another animated piece.

New Animatic - 5-13-09

Here's a new animatic with 3-4 more scenes animated. Same old story, rough composite and a few tweaks timing and motion wise here and there.

Enjoy!

Music - Themes

Here are the most up-to-date samples of the two themes my composer and I are working on for the film. Much has changed since these were made, but it gives you an idea of the direction we are headed in.

NOTE: These are made with synthetic instruments, so naturally they don't sound as good.

UPDATE!!!

Just so everyone knows how it's going, as there hasn't been a real update in a while.

1]  ADR is finished, Brian Bitner, my actor, did an amazing job and gave me all the voices I needed (3 in all) and it will be cut into the next animatic that is uploaded here.

2]  Principle animation is almost complete, just one more scene (the Chase) to finish.  There is no shortage of tweaks to make on the work that is already done however, but that shouldn't actually be all that much work.

3]  In the final stretch, final thesis review is next Thurs.  Might have a new update before then.

'Till then, hold your breath!

New Animatic - 02-16-09

Here's a new animatic complete with some final animation. The voice work is from a reading I did with an actor of mine to see how he would fit. I think he works very well, granted it was a quick and dirty reading, so there are instances where the timing is off, and the inflection isn't quite right, but he took direction well, and he sounds great.

So barring any unforeseen shifts, he's gonna be my guy.

NEW ANIMATIC: 12-11-08

Here's a new animatic, pretty much final. I ironed out the narration in terms of tempo/pacing/placement and I also put the rendered (not comped) backgrounds in with the storyboard art to get a sense of my lighting.

Music is still just a hack job temp track, nothing more than a mood indicator.
